The manufactures of Marlboro, Philip Morris and many other top tobacco producing companies began to market filtered cigarettes. The new Marlboro with a filter in it was launched in 1955. In the early 1960's Philip Morris was looking for a new Marlboro icon that would attract men to this brand, they were looking for something manly and something new. They came up with a concept called Marlboro Man, which became an instant success and for decades "Marlboro Man" donned the billboards, banners, cafes, and all advertising campaigns.
